Highly-sensitive hydrogen sensor of DNA-Pd nano hybrid materials

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) is one of the polymer templates most appropriate to build up defined inorganic materials. DNA has negative charge on phosphate groups, and the DNA conformation can be transformed to a globular conformation by increasing the concentration of cationic ion. In this study, we attempted to reduce palladium (Pd) on DNA structure at a relatively high concentration of Pd and succeeded in the formation of unique DNA-Pd nano hybrid structures by controlling reductive reaction. Pd can absorb hydrogen to be chemically changed to PdHx. The electric resistance and volume of the Pd materialsis are increased by the storage of hydrogen, which is considered to be available for hydrogen sensor. We would show the utilization of the DNA-Pd hybrid material for the highly-sensitive hydrogen sensor or hydrogen switch device.
