High-temperature irradiation of alumina-base ceramic materials in a water cooled fission reactor

抄録

The so-called improved temperature-controlled irradiation was attempted at 1073 K with an electrical heater in a water cooled fission reactor and alumina-magnesia ceramics were irradiated. They were sintered from the highly pure powders without sintering-aid agents. Preliminary results indicted that recrystallization or re-structuring took place during the high temperature irradiation. The alumina and the magnesia phases appeared in the nearly stoichiometric spinel of MgAl2O4 after the irradiation.
