The effects of various ternary substitutional alloying additions on the high temperature compressive strengths of the Pt-Al-X alloys located in the two-phase (Pt)+Pt3Al region were studied. Ternary alloying additions were selected as solid-solution strengthening elements for the face centered cubic matrix phase (Pt), while other elements were selected to stabilize the high-temperature L12 form of the Pt3Al phase. The high temperature cubic allotrope of Pt3Al was stabilized by ternary additions of Ti and Ta, both of which are soluble in Pt3Al. The temperature dependence of the compressive flow stress of ternary Pt-Al-X alloy was measured. The alloys all had higher strengths above 1150 °C and the Pt83Al14Re3 alloys had the highest strengths above 1200 °C.
