In-situ observation of 1 MeV H+ beam-induced emission spectra was carried out on size-quantized CdS particles incorporated into Langmuir-Blodgett films. Three main emission bands assigned to the midgap states, at 420-450 nm, about 510 nm and 560-610 nm, as well as the excitonic emissions were detected. The emission spectra apparently reflected the difference in surface states between the samples treated differently. Changes in the spectra as the dose was accumulated indicated the existence of several non-radiative recombination processes acting differently each other. As a result, it was shown that the irradiation of l MeV H+ had surface treatment effect on CdS fine particles, removing almost all the non-radiative and radiative traps in the midgap.
