Guidance and control for d-send#2

This paper describes the current developmentstatus of the guidance and control law for DSEND#2, a supersonic flight test scheduled nextyear in Sweden to validate JAXA's proprietarylow-boom configuration. D-SEND#2 featuresa balloon-based flight experiment system withan unpowered low-boom demonstrator called thesilent supersonic concept model (S3CM). Thegoal of the guidance and control law is to guideS3CM autonomously to the boom measurementsystem (BMS), a captive blimp with aerial microphonesinstalled for acoustic data acquisition,and to realize a target flight condition so that theacoustic measurement requirements will be satisfiedwhen the sonic boom reaches the BMS.Challenges lies in developing the guidance andcontrol law: reference trajectory generation regardlessof the initial release point, accurate attitudecontrol covering a broad flight envelope,and sufficient robustness in the presence of uncertaintiesand turbulence. Parametrization and optimizationof the reference trajectory, the guidanceand control law based on the hierarchy-structureddynamic inversion (HSDI), and robustness evaluationthrough Monte Carlo simulations (MCS)are elaborated on in this paper to cope with thesetechnical challenges.
