Fluorescence quenching oxygen sensor using an aluminum phthalocyanine-polystyrene film

An aluminum 2,9,16,23-tetraphenoxy-29H, 31H-phthalocyanine hydroxide (AlPc(OH))-polystyrene (PS) film was prepared and its photophysical and photochemical properties were measured. An optical oxygen sensor based on the fluorescence quenching of AlPc(OH)-PS film by oxygen was developed. The ratio I0/I100 is used to describe the sensitivity of the sensing film, where I0 and I100 represent the detected fluorescence intensities from a film exposed to 100% argon and 100% oxygen, respectively. The I0/I100 of AlPc(OH)-PS film is estimated to be 1.04. A Stern-Volmer plot of the film exhibited considerable linearity in low oxygen concentration region (~10%) and the Stern-Volmer constant, K(SV) is estimated to be 2.4x10-3%-1.
