The fabrication methods of MA-Zr hydride were studied by using Nd and Sm. Samples of hydrides with rare earth element (REE) were obtained by alloying individual metals with their subsequent saturation of the gaseous hydrogen using the Sieverts' method. The resulting Zr-REE hydrides are formed by the basic cubic δ-phase that is close to ZrH1.66 in stoichiometry. Preliminary AmO2 was extracted by radiochemical method from aged PuO2. Am metal was obtained by the pyrochemical method from dioxide in molten salt LiCl-Li2O in an inert glove box. The X-Ray diffraction pattern (XRD) of the metallized product was characterized by the presence of diffraction reflexes of cubic metal lithium and metal americium. No oxide phase reflexes were observed. By using the obtained Am metal, Am-Zr-Fe-Al alloy pellets were prepared. The XRD of the alloy was characterized by the presence of the main Laves phase, an intermetallic compound with structural type of Al2FeZr6. The results of the work can be used for the fabrication of hydride targets for americium transmutation in FBR blanket region.
