Electroless deposition of Pd thin layer on surface of fibrous molecular assemblage of hydrogen-bonded polymer

We investigated the formation mechanism of catalytic Pd nanoparticles to prepare nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) hollow microfibers by electroless plating. By immersing hydrogen-bonded fibrous molecular assemblage in an acidic PdCl 2 aqueous solution and rinsing it with deionized water, a PdO x thin film was formed on the surface of the molecular assemblage. Pd nanoparticles having an average diameter of 5.6 nm were subsequently formed on the PdOx thin film by reduction with NaH2PO2. It was found that the homogeneous formation of the PdOx thin film on the molecular surface played an important role to bring about uniform electroless deposition of Ni-P alloy by electroless plating.
