Effects of plasma injection on combustion processes

We investigated the effects of plasma injection on combustion processes with emission spectroscopy. Weakly ionized nitrogen plasma generated by DC arc discharge was injected into a machine flame. We noticed the great enhancement of emission intensities of OH, CH and C2 radicals, and observed the increments of oxygen consumption rates and limits of flammability. The authors introduced a physical model that supported the experimental results. As a result, we concluded that vibrationally excited molecules produced by plasma injection played important roles in the enhancement of combustion reaction rates.
