Effects of biomaterials such as machined pure titanium (Ti), poly lactic acid (PLA), poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and collagen on adhesion of human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (HPLF) and fibronectin (FN) adsorption were examined. The numbers of adhered cells cultured on Ti, PLA and PLGA were significantly lower than those on control and collagen-coated disks in the early culture period. At this period, FN adsorption on Ti, PLA and PLGA was higher than control and collagen-coated disks. FN adsorption became comparable on all disks when cell numbers on Ti, PLA and PLGA caught up with those on control and collagen-coated disks after long-term culture. It is suggested that HPLF may adhere to biomaterials controlling FN adsorption.
