The thermal conductivity of the Fe-rich solid solution phase with body-centered cubic (bcc) structure was investigated in Fe containing binary systems. For binary system Fe-X where X stands for elements such as Al, Si, Ti, V and Cr, it was found that the addition of X always reduced the value of thermal conductivity. The analysis showed that for the elements of first and second long groups, thermal conductivity monotonically decreased as the horizontal distance of the alloying element X from Fe increased, when X was positioned at the right-hand side of Fe in the periodic table.
