The behaviors of plasma torches in supersonic airflow were analytically and numerically investigated. Moreover, a spectroscopic measurement by a spectrum meter was conducted. When thermoehemical equilibrium and different efficiencies of energy conversion for each species were presumed, the ranges of radical concentrations and temperatures of various kinds of feedstocks at injection were within the ranges between a pure N2 plasma torch and a pure O2 one. The N radical supplied by a N2 plasma jet (PJ) were quickly converted to O radicals downstream in the twodimensional simulation. The formation of radicals in the PJ was confirmed by the spectroscopic measurement, and the amount of radicals increased with the electric power input of the PJ. The region where the O radical supplied from the O2 PJ existed downstream of the PJ was larger than that of N radical supplied from the N2 PJ, and this tendancy was also obtained in numerical result. However, it was revealed by spectroscopic measurement that such region was very small even for the O2 PJ. The numerical analysis in two-dimension overestimated such effective region of radicals.
