In order to investigate the effect of fabrication process on the superconducting properties of MgB2 tapes, several types of MgB2 tapes were fabricated using different techniques, such as different deformation ratio, different precursor process, etc. It is found that the higher rotary-swage ratio, the better Jc-B properties. For example, at 4.2 K and 10 T, Jc value for the samples swaged to 4 mm was five times higher than that for the samples swaged to 6 mm. On the other hand, the Jc values were significantly improved when the staring powder was homogenized by ball milling. For instance, at 10 T (4.2 K), the Jc value was improved from 2.2 × 103 A/cm2 to 3.5 × 103 A/cm2 for undoped samples sintered at 800 °C, while it was improved from 1.3 × 104 A/cm2 to 1.8 × 104 A/cm2 for 5 at% carbon doped ones. Detailed mechanism of the Jc-B property difference induced by different deformation ratio or different staring material process is discussed based on the systematically examined results.
