N2 - Prediction of runout distance of sediment sliding down a slope is useful for estimating damage caused from natural disasters. In this study, continuum modeling based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and discrete modeling based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM) are used to reproduce the flow of dry sand down a slope. Parametric studies are conducted for the two simulations. It is observed that the flow behavior strongly depends on the values of elastic and damping coefficients for the discrete model. On the other hand, the flow behavior depends significantly on the value of the bottom friction for the continuum model.
