Dilution effects in classical and quantum orbital systems

We examine the dilution effects in an orbital model, termed the orbital compass model, which corresponds to the two-dimensional version of the eg-orbital model. An unconventional low-dimensional orbital alignment termed the directional order is confirmed to be realized by utilizing the quantum Monte-Carlo method. Impurity dependence of the ordering temperature of the directional order is numerically examined. We show that the quantum effect makes the directional order robust against doping of impurities.
