Design of a double functional interface polymer with artificial biomembrane for control of anti-and pro-tissue adhesion

The aim of this study is to create a novel bioadhesive with double functional interfaces; one is pro-tissue adhesive to the applied tissue and the other is anti-adhesive between the material and the normal tissue. We are reporting a polymeric system using the activated-estered poly(lactic acid) particle and poly(MPC-co-acrylamide). The particle enables biodegradation and tissue adhesion via chemical cross-linking. The amino groups in the PMAam can also form amide bondings with the activated ester on the particle surface and result in spontaneous gelation. The MPC unit in PMAam is expected to provide biocompatibility and suppress adhesion between the material and the normal tissue.
