Densities add surface tensions in a calcium ferrite slag

Densities and surface tensions of melts in the system CaO-FeO-Fe2 O3 were measured under various oxygen partial pressures at 1573K by maximum bubble pressure method. The oxygen partial pressures were controlled by a mixture of CO2 and H2 gases ranged from 10-11 to 10-1.67MPa(air). Values of density increased with an increase of ferrous ions in the melt. Although a small effect of oxygen partial pressure on the surface tension was observed, a decreasing tendency of surface tension was found when ferrous ions increased. The addition of CaO to the melt decreased the density and surface tension of the melt.
