In A.C. multi-strand superconducting cables, A.C. quench current is much less thanthat of D.C.. This A.C. quench current degradation is caused by A.C. loss, mechanical damage by cabling, non-uniform current distribution among strands due to self and mutual inductances between strands and different electrical resistivity at the joint between superconducting strands and copper current lead. The current distribution in non-insulated 7- and (6+1)-strand cables applying A.C. transport current are calculated and the influence of contact electrical resistivity on current redistribution in quench process and in stationary state is investigated. The current redistribution characteristics of non-insulated strand cable and those of insulated strand cable are compared.
