Creep rupture properties of alloys which precipitate alpha -W were investigated in the temperature range from 900 degree C to 1050 degree C in He environment which simulates the primary coolant of high temperature gas cooled reactor and at 900 degree C in a reducing gas environment to be used when direct steelmaking is connected with the primary HTGR. The results are discussed in terms of carburization, decarburization and oxidation. Two alloys have the possibility of a 50,000 h rupture strength of more than 1 kg/mm**2. Degradation of rupture strength in an alloy which has alpha -W as the main strengthener did not appear in spite of severe decarburization.
