Creep behavior and substructures of α2 Ti-34mol%Al intermetallics

The creep behavior of α2 Ti-34mol%Al has been investigated at 1050-1250 K under 70-500 MPa. The effect of the initial grain-size in the range 40-130 μm has also been studied. Characteristics of stress and temperature dependence of the minimum creep-rate can be classified into three regions: the stress exponent, the activation energy and the grain-size exponent for the minimum creep-rate have a set of characteristic values in each region. The formation of deformation twins and their growth play an important role in the recovery process of creep in higher stress regions at least up to the strain attaining the minimum creep-rate. In lower stress regions, the glide and recovery of dislocations play an essential role in creep.
