Characterization of fracture surface by polarimetric borehole radar

抄録

The scattering matrix of subsurface cracks in Kamaishi Mine was evaluated. Significant cross-polarization components from subsurface fractures are observed. It was demonstrated by rotation of the polarization basis of the scattering matrix that fractures at the depth of 6 m and 12 m have characteristics of a flat plane and the fracture at the depth of 9 m acts as random rough surface.
