Calculation of radiating flowfield behind a reflected shock wave in air

A numerical method for calculating a one-dimensional radiating flowfield in thermochemical equilibrium in which radiation strongly affects the flowfield is developed. Radiative heat fluxes are calculated using a model developed earlier which combines Planck, Rosseland and Gray-gas models. The flow solution is obtained with a fully implicit time-marching method using a full block matrix inversion. The method is applied for calculating a radiating flowfield behind a reflected shock wave in air. It is shown that (1) the method converges at enthalpies up to 100 MJ/kg and pressure up to 5 atm, and that (2) the calculated radiative heat flux values agree fairly well with the experimental data taken at enthalpies of up to 80 MJ/kg.
