BGS wave resonators adopt ceramic substrate, realize low cost

Murata Manufacturing Co, Ltd, has developed a lead (Pb)-zirconium-titanate (PZT) material for Bleustein-Gulyaev-Shimizu (BGS) waves with a small grain size, high density, high electromechanic coupling constant and excellent temperature coefficient. Using the properties of BGS waves, Murata realized low-cost, broad-band, compact resonators. Practical application of BGS wave devices using PZT substrates had not been previously considered because of the difficulty in making transversely polarized large-diameter substrates as well as the tendency toward excessively low impedance in high-frequency regions. Murata solved these problems and succeeded in producing a BGS-wave resonator adopting facet reflection.
