To develop a technology with which to determine small amounts of creep damage occurring in the thick parts of power boiler components made of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel, a series of creep experiments was conducted to varying degrees of lifetime. The composition of carbide, determined for each specimen on the electrolytically extracted residue and expressed in terms of the carbide Mo/Cr ratio proved to be correlated to the accumulated creep damage quite well. This method was verified for an operating boiler header.
