Application of diffusion MR imaging to diagnosis of gliomas

Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mapping give unique information related to water diffusivity in tissues. Several studies suggested usefulness of these imaging on evaluation of gliomas. ADC values can be used for differential diagnosis of pediatric cerebellar gliomas. Minimum ADC values of gliomas correlates well with tumor cell density and malignancy, and may be used for predicting prognosis after treatments. The imaging technique are also applied for evaluation of post-operative change of gliomas.
