Gravity models and opportunity models are frequently used to estimate trip distribution. These models are based on simplified assumptions regarding human behavior and urban activities, though they are more complicated. This report examines the applicability of the models by looking at various cases. Five trip-distribution models of frequent usage are examined in the application to the data of six person-trip surveys in Japan and the Philippines. Results are discussed in terms of models giving the best reproducibility, sample size effects, sensitivity to parameter deviation, and zoning composition effects.
