Anisotropy of thernomagnetic effect in YBa2Cu3Ox

The anisotropic dissipative behavior in the mixed state of YBa2Cu3Ox (x∼7) has been investigated by the Nernst effect that is one of the thermomagnetic effects. The Nernst effect has been measured for three different configurations, namely (1) H//c-axis, {down triangle, open}xT//ab-plane, (2) H//ab-plane, {down triangle, open}xT//ab-plane and (3) H//ab-plane, {down triangle, open}xT //c-axis, where H is the external magnetic field and {down triangle, open}xT is the temperature gradient applied to a sample. The large anisotropy exceeding 100 was found in the viscosity of the vortex motion. Comparing the dissipative behavior caused by the thermal force with that caused by the Lorentz force, the mechanism of the vortex motion in the layered structure is discussed.
