Several large Early Carboniferous-Middle Permian limestones including the Akiyoshi, world famous for fusulinacean biostratigraphy, are isolatedly aligned in the Inner Zone of SW Japan. This complex disposition of heterogenous rock assemblages is best explained by accretion of a reef complex originating on an oceanic basaltic seamount and outskirted by coeval pelagic siliceous deposits, and trench-fill terrigenous sediments prior to deposition of the Upper Triassic rocks. -from Authors
