X-ray absorption spectroscopic studies on electronic structure in La 0.6Sr0.4Co0.8Fe0.2O 3-δ perovskite-type oxides

Abstract

In order to investigate the variation of the electronic structure of La0.6Sr0.4Co0.8Fe0.2O 3-δ depending on its oxygen nonstoichiometry, X-ray absorption spectroscopy of the sample annealed under various oxygen partial pressures was performed. Co/Fe L-edge XANES spectra indicated that the mean valence of Co ions decreased with decreasing oxygen partial pressures, while that of Fe ions was almost independent of oxygen partial pressures. This result suggested that Co ions rather than Fe ions preferentially compensated the charges caused by the formation of oxygen vacancies.
