Abstract

Design concept and radio link performance of a coherent multi-rate wideband DS-CDMA (W-CDMA) mobile radio is presented. It employs inter-cell asynchronous operation with a fast cell search algorithm, pilot symbol assisted coherent reverse/forward links, and orthogonal multi-spreading factor (SF) forward links. Wideband data services with multi-rate transmission is possible without losing orthogonality. The results of the radio link performance evaluations by field tests (up to 2 Mbps), as well as computer simulation, are presented.
