VLSI processor for reliable stereo matching based on adaptive window-size selection

Abstract

Correspondence between images in stereo visison was obtained using a reliable stereo matching algorithm with variable window sizes and a parallel VLSI processor architecture. The window size was iteratively enlarged to select a small window for each pixel and then iteratively refined by shrinking the window size. Graphs obtained from the sum of absolute differences (SAD) method was used to determine the reliable matching pixel. The reliability of stereo matching was increased by combining it with a multi-baseline stereo using a sum of SADs.
