Abstract
Turbulence measurements were carried out under a combined motion of oscillatory and steady currents over an asymmetric rippled bed. The empirical results were compared with the numerical solution of the two-dimensional vorticity equation. The observed movement of fluid particles over a ripple gave an explanation to the sediment transport in a direction opposite to that of the superimposed steady flow under waves and current, as reported by Inman and Bowen and Natarajan.
