Utilization of biomass as energy and chemical feedstock

The interest in production of energy and chemicals from biomass increased recently due to the general trend of reduction of usage of fossil fuels and environmental issus in relation to renewable energy sources. In this paper, recent progress of thermochemical processes of biomass utilization with supercritical and/or subcritical fluid solvents were overreviewed. It is pointed out that the combined thermochemical processes with the use of supercritical and subcritical fulid solvents will become one of the essential technology for the fully utilization of biomass as energy and chemical feedstock.
