Abstract

Electronic structures and magnetic properties of typical transition metal clusters in different local environments are studied by the first-principles spin-polarized calculations within the local density functional formalism. Novel properties have been observed in these low-dimension systems which may be used in new industrial applications. By solving the non-linear equation based on the classical Heisenberg models for 2D and 3D artificial lattices, we find the there is high possibility to use the 2D and 3D artificial lattices as ultra-high density magnetic recording media. The MMV states are based on the magnetic anisotropic configurations in 2D and 3D artificial lattices, because establishing the MMV states is considered necessary to make a different magnetic domain.
