Abstract

A new and simple design method, called the unified design method, is proposed for two-dimensional (2-D) state-space digital filters with separable denominators. The unified design method simultaneously performs approximation and synthesis for given spatial domain specifications, and yields suboptimal 2-D state-space digital filters with respect to roundoff noise minimization. It is given in closed form, and needs no complicated calculation; only the singular value decomposition of Hankel matrices is required.
