Abstract

Accurate measurements of the longitudinal and shear velocities, densities, elastic constants, and lattice constants of two sapphire single-crystal ingots grown by the Bagdasarov method and the Kyropulos method are reported. No significant differences were observed in the acoustic properties of the two crystals. The elastic constants and densities were accurately determined, with considerable differences in c13, c14, and c33, as compared with the published constants, and the sign of c14 was confirmed to be positive.
