Abstract

Ultrasonic attenuation of (Er//1// minus //xHo//x)Rh//4B//4 is measured with 15MHz longitudinal wave in the temperature range from 9 K to 0. 1 K. A rather sharp peak in zero-field attenuation is observed for x equals 0. 05 and 0. 15 near T//c//2, the temperature at which the transition to the ferromagnetic normal-conducting phase occurs. A broad attenuation peak is also observed for x equals 0. 05 near 4K, and is discussed in terms of the crystal-field effects.
