Abstract

Tunable sub-terahertz (THz) waves ranging from 0.3 to 3 THz were generated in a 4′-N,N-dimethylamino-N′-methyl-4-stilbazolium tosylate (DAST) crystal using the difference frequency mixing technique. We developed a dual-wavelength optical parametric oscillator near 990 nm with two KTiOPO 4 crystals as the input light source. The maximum output energy of 17 nJ/pulse (peak power: 1.4W) was achieved at 0.7 THz using a high-quality DAST crystal with a 2-mm thickness.
