Abstract

In this paper, the effect of the number of friction cycles on wear modes transition during repeat pass sliding is investigated microscopically. The microscopic wear modes during repeat pass sliding are classified by successive observations of wear processes. The transition of wear modes is explained by a severity index of contact condition, which changes with cycles of sliding.
