Elastic scattering of positrons was investigated by hydrogen atoms and helium ions using a time-dependent coupled-channel (TDCC) method. The phase shifts were calculated with the time-energy Fourier transform of a wave packet. The low-lying S-wave resonances with a broad width predicted in variational eigenenergy calculations were examined for helium ions. The numerical accuracy of the TDCC method was demonstrated for S-, P-, and D- wave scatterings by hydrogen atoms.
