Three-dimensional fermi surface in θ-(BEDT-TTF)2I3

Abstract

Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) experiments on an organic conductor θ-(BEDT-TTF)2I3 have been carried out. Besides the large quasi two-dimensional Fermi surface, small three-dimensional surfaces are found. Clear SdH oscillations are observed even for the magnetic fields parallel to the two-dimensional conducting plane. These three-dimensional surfaces have the cross-sectional areas of the order of only 0.1% of the first Brillouin zone. The cyclotron effective mass ratio of the carriers on the three-dimensional Fermi surface is estimated to be small, 0.05(±0.02) and 0.014(±0.002) for the magnetic fields perpendicular and parallel to the two-dimensional plane, respectively.
