Thin Sn film induced by surface diffusion on a quasiperiodic surface of decagonal Al-Ni-Co

Abstract

By using surface diffusion, we have grown a layer of Sn film on a quasiperiodic surface of the decagonal Al72Ni12Co 16 phase. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements show that the film is a single layer. Both reflection high-energy electron diffraction patterns and scanning tunneling microscopy images strongly suggest the existence of a quasiperiodic structure on the surface.
