Abstract

Previous results on manganese distribution between liquid iron and Fe//tO-containing slags are summarized. The apparent equilibrium constant K prime //M//n equals N//M//n//O/(N//F//e//t//O multiplied by (times) left bracket %Mn right bracket ) in the Fe//tO-MnO slag is expressed as log K prime //M//n equals 7572/T minus 3. 599. The variations of K prime //M//n with slag compositions are discussed on the basis of the regular solution model and Richardson's model of ideal silicate mixing.
