Abstract

Thermolysis of LnIr(C2H5)(H) [Ln = {η2-Me2Si(CH2)2PPh 2}-(PMe3)2] led to the clean formation of a 1:1 mixture of ethene complex LnIr(C2H4) and dihydrido complex LnIr(H)2. The former product is proved to be an efficient precursor of an unsaturated silyliridium(I) species through dissociation of ethene.
