Abstract
A simple, statistical-mechanical model is introduced to analyze fluctuating rows of adatoms observed on the oxygen adsorbed Ag(110) surface. By assuming that the fluctuations occur in thermal equilibrium, it is shown that the average sizes of straight segments of fluctuating rows provide certain information on the effective interaction between adatoms.
