The third magnetic phase of GaGdN detected by SX-MCD

Abstract

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) under the transition between the core levels (3d-4f) of Gd+3 ion in diluted magnetic semiconductor GaGdN is observed in the energy range of 1160-1240 eV. The intensity of the MCD signals reaches up to 30% at 15 K, suggesting strong magnetic behavior. The temperature dependence of its intensity is not on a simple Curie-Weiss curve. A step like form around 40-100 K is found, suggesting a new magnetic phase.
