Abstract

The crystal structure of a charge-transfer complex, [Pd(HBQD)2]TCNQ (TCNQ=tetracyanoquinodimethane, HBQD =1,2-benzoquinonedioxime) has been studied at 295 K and 110 K by X-ray diffraction. The bond-length change in the ligand π-conjugated system of Pd(HBQD)2 was consistent with the nodal property of the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital. This supports the temperature-induced charge transfer from the Pd ion to the π* antibonding orbital of ligand HBQD.
