Abstract

Stabilities of A-site 2% rich and B-site 2% rich La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3-δ (LSCF6428) samples were investigated in order to confirm degradation mechanism of LSCF6428 under oxygen potential gradient. The morphological and compositional changes were examined using SEM, EDX, and TEM analyses before and after an annealing experiment at 1273 K for a week. An A-site rich LSCF6428 sample showed Sr-0 segregation on the surface; meanwhile, B site rich LSCF6428 sample showed quite different result: small amount of CoO segregation was observed along the grain boundary lines on the surface before the annealing experiment, and the amount increased obviously under oxygen potential gradient at 1273 K. The resulted morphology and the composition of the deposits on the surface were consistent with those reported as the result of kinetic decomposition for LSCF. The result shows that A site and B site rich LSCF6428 samples have different effect on the stability of the material as cathode in SOFC.
