Abstract

The 4d→4f, ε{lunate}f absorption spectra have been measured for La, LaF3, Ba and BaF2. The spectral line shapes are appreciably dependent on the degree of localization of the contracted 4f states. Considerable difference in 4f states has been found between amorphous BaF2 and poly- or single-crystalline BaF2.
