Synthesis, structure and magnetic property of novel carboranyl radicals

The icosahedral boron clusters, carboranes (closo-C2B 10H12) can be considered as three-dimensional aromatic systems. We have been studying magnetic properties of carboranyl radicals, and ortho-carboranyl biradical containing nitronylnitroxide arms (OCB-BNN) has been already reported. In this presentation, we would like to report weta-carboranyl biradical (MCB-BNN) containing same radical units for the purpose of the investigation of the magnetic interaction of the structure isomer. The synthesis, X-ray crystal structure and magnetic behaviors in solution and crystalline phase of MCB-BNN will be presented.
